They allow high level recostruction of HTTP, SMTP, POP, IMAP, FTP, TELNET, etc protocols.Also, SoftPerfect Network Protocol Analyzer has a filter system that is totally configurable, to get just the traffic you want to analyze. It also has a tool that lets you build your own network packets, so you can check if your network is functioning correctly, or there has been an attack or intrusion.
